The 1st “Qiushi Dialogue” on the Long-Term Aging Care Held by SPAP, RUC and SIPP, Hitotsubashi University

The 1st “Qiushi Dialogue” (求是对话) was successfully held on Jan 6th, 2022, focusing on the topic of the long-term care social security system in aging society. The School of Public Administration and Policy (SPAP), Renmin University of China (RUC) host the lecture together with the School of International and Public Policy (SIPP), Hitotsubashi University. Prof. Shinji Yamashige, Dean of SIPP, hosted the lecture, and faculties and students from both schools attended. The whole lecture was warmly welcomed and joined by more than 300 teachers and students both online and offline.

At the beginning of the lecture, Prof. Liang Ma from SPAP, RUC delivered a welcome speech, in retrospect of the cooperation between two schools, extending warm welcome and introducing guest professors and their topics for the Dialogue. As a heated research topic, the long-term care social security system attracts academic and policy attention from home and abroad. Both schools are eager to promote further collaboration.

Associate Professor He Chen from SPAP, RUC delivered an academic lecture to systematically review Chinese Social Security Policies. She introduced Long-term Care Social Security System from its demographic, societal, and economic environment, and further analyzed policy implementation, evaluation, achievements, and challenges.

Prof. Motohiro Sato shared a lecture titled Japanese Social Security Policies -Economic Value of Care: Challenge of Long-term Care and Social Security in Aging Japan. Aging status in Japan and its impact on public finance, social security funding structure, labor shortage, and low efficiency in the care industry were all discussed and analyzed.

Finally, Prof. Shinji Yamashige summarized this Dialogue, and extended best wishes for further academic communication between two schools in the future.

“Qiushi Dialogue” (求是对话) is aimed to be a series of lecture organized between SPAP and its international partners of academic institutions, meant to enhance the international communications and collaborations in the field of public administration and increase the academic influence of RUC globally.
